Factually was founded by Theo Savov - an EU-based software engineer & founder. It all started in November 2024 as a reaction to the widespread misinformation campaigns around the last US elections. No investors, no corporate sponsors, no political affiliations. Just a tiny team, originally self-funded and now supported by reader donations. Source: Factually.co About page

OpenSecrets.org is nonpartisan, independent and nonprofit, our mission is to serve as the trusted authority on money in American politics. We pursue our mission by providing comprehensive and reliable data, analysis and tools for policymakers, storytellers and citizens. Our vision is for Americans to use data on money in politics to create a more vibrant, representative and responsive democracy. [About]
The Center for Responsive Politics (the Center) is a Washington-based non-profit, non-partisan organization that collects, analyzes, and publishes millions of financial records concerning campaign contributions. Its OpenSecrets.org website shows campaign contributions by major industries, corporations, top individual donors, and advocacy organizations to every candidate in every federal election, and to every member of Congress. Based on this information, the Center develops reports and data visualizations that demonstrate who funds campaigns, who benefits from contributions, and how these donations affect legislative action. No other organization undertakes this work at the federal level for every congressional district across the country. Source: John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
Follow the Money, A Handbook
Published by the Center for Responsive Politics in 1994, this handbook was written especially for journalists by our former executive director, Larry Makinson, who developed the system we use to classify campaign contributions while he was a newspaper reporter. The methods outlined in the selected chapters below apply whether you're vying for a Pulitzer Prize or just muckraking in your town. And if you just want to know more about how our hard-working staff produces the campaign finance research that's on this website, the "Follow the Money" handbook will fill you in.
